Solidarity Thing is a temporal installation comprised of material objects designed by multidisciplinary artist Antuong Nguyen, in collaboration with fashion designers PAGEANT (Kate Reynolds & Amanda Cumming). These works encourage an intuitive approach to creative-thinking through the simple act of play; the vibrant, large-scale fabric constructions incorporate a variety of commercial fastenings that can be zipped, folded, combined, and suspended in an infinite number of ways.
Inspired by the Greensleeves Rhythm Album 12" compilation series whereby an instrumental Jamaican dancehall 'riddim' is accompanied by multiple vocal versions; these fabric constructions will act as an instrument for creative 'voicing' by external practitioners. Throughout the duration of the exhibition, artist MasatoTakasaka and architects SIBLING are invited to configure and arrange the work freely, adapting the space to express their conceptual concerns.
The proposed outcome of this democratized approach to the art-making process is an evolving-work that utilises the disciplines of art, fashion, & architecture to investigate the notion of authorship, functionality, and form.
Designs by Antuong Nguyen & PAGEANT (Amanda Cumming & Kate Reynolds).
