FROM THE MINISTER FOR THE ARTS Welcome to the 2010 Craft Cubed Festival. The Victorian Government is a proud supporter of Craft Victoria and is delighted to be a part of this celebration of experimental, skilled and ideas-based craft and design. This year’s festival focuses on the concept of ‘childhood’, a fitting theme for an artform that is embraced by people at all ages. From workshops to diverse installations, from open studios that give you the opportunity to meet the artists behind the works to exhibitions and forums, the festival offers a multitude of ways to engage with craft and design. I hope Craft Cubed gives you the opportunity to reflect on old memories and inspires you to create some new ones. Peter Batchelor MP |
FROM THE CEO & ARTISTIC DIRECTOR Welcome to Craft Cubed, Australia’s foremost contemporary craft festival. Craft Cubed is designed to gather in a wide community. Numerous satellite events, a fascinating online program and special exhibitions at Craft Victoria are all available for you to experience. The theme for the 2010 festival is ‘childhood’. It’s a concept and an emotion! We have all had one, and we all re-explore it at times. ‘Childhood’ is the zone where we learn right from wrong and about love and pain; basically it’s the building block of all societies, both human and animal. With over 100 participating craftspeople and special partners including Federation Square, Craft Cubed is the new meeting place for the crafts and the public. Join in! Joe Pascoe |
